Who we Are
Belton Lodge #450 is one of the oldest continuous institutions in Belton, Missouri. Our charter members were citizens of Belton who petitioned the Grand Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Missouri for dispensation to form a new lodge on October 16, 1872.
Since that time, the lodge has never closed its doors for lack of membership. Our meetings are conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations set out by the Grand Lodge of Missouri. As such, we are recognized by lodges in other jurisdictions throughout the United States and around the world.
We have had many famous members throughout our history. Perhaps our most famous member was Most Worshipful Harry S Truman. Brother Harry, as he was affectionately known, was initiated into Belton Masonic Lodge and received all of his degrees here before undertaking the establishment of a new lodge in Grandview, Missouri.
From the beginning, our membership has included carpenters, engineers, doctors, judges, farmer’s, men in uniform and any other man who would desire to “Seek Light”. While this explanation does not expand on what freemasonry is, there are plenty of other web sites, books, tapes and videos that will excite your interest if you so choose to find out what this most ancient and honorable of fraternities is and is not.
Our current membership is 176 members. We have a rich history of community involvement to include the granting of scholarships to high school students in the Belton/Raymore area and the support of needy families during the Christmas holiday. We have achieved this by fund-raising activities such as the hosting of golf tournaments and the selling of fireworks during the week before July 4th.
The lodge is located at 307 N. Scott Avenue in Belton, Missouri.
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays every month at 7:00 pm
